3 different types of stop motion

Nightmare before Christmas- Puppet Animation
This short video is an example of Puppet Animation, which is 'Puppet animation is a development of stop-motion animation, rather than using objects in different frames puppets were introduced due to their human like quality's so directors can move the puppet freely and more easily to show different movements. It works by taking pictures and moving the puppet in different frames.'- http://ryanchandler1995.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/puppet-animation.html
The narrative development of the Nightmare before Christmas was based on the Story and characters by Tim Burton, who was also the producer of the film. it was originally a poem which was written by Burton in 1982. In 1990 he made a development deal with Disney. at first the music was produced, followed by the script, which is an unusual way of which not many films have been produced like this.
When creating the film a team of over 100 artists and tecniquions spent 3 years, storyboarding, creating and producing the film. Times previously artwork was the main kick off from where the illustrations of the characters came from. Joseph Ranft was the storyboard supervisor, who over saw the visualisation and planning that went into what the film would be. the storyboards were all lined up in together in rows, to ensure continuity, with the music and voice audio. As the film was anticipated an extremely long process, both Tim and joseph worked closely together and pre made the film sequence by sequence before production started.
'A film treatment (or simply treatment) is a piece of prose, typically the step between scene cards (index cards) and the first draft of a screenplay for a motion picture, television program, or radio play.'-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_treatment. I was unable to find the treatment for The Nightmare Before Christmas, scene cards and a screenplay for the film is something that I would of thought would of happened. along with many other pre production processes.
Time Burton pitched his idea of making a film to Disney, when it was just a poem and Disney gave him the green light.

Chicken Run- Claymation
The film Chicken Run is an example of Claymation animation. which is ' a stop-motion animation process using clay or Plastacine figures that are moved incrementally to create a lifelike look when the captured film frames are viewed in rapid sequence.'- http://www.dictionary.com/browse/Claymation
The narrative of the film was thought up and wrote by Nick Park and Peter Lord, where it was later produced into a huge blockbuster movie by the British studio, Aardman Animations. Aardman have been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, with being the designers of Morph and many other Claymation animations. The time and effort put into the clay characters is impeccable, and all of the hard work shows off if there videos and films.
Before constructing the characters, storyboards were produced so that they could capture the characaistis of the clay character prosily. The storyboards were draw out by hand by extremely talented illistraighters. When the story boards were finished they also helped the team stick to a plan, and storyline. Once the storyboards were all drawn up and coloured they started work on designing sets and making the characters. Aardman hire the most talented clay designers to help make the stars of Chicken Run. There were 19 different set up stations all proceeding in designer and making characters.
I was unable to find the treatment for chicken run although I aspect Nick went to Aardman and pitched the story, and it was a huge success. The storyline is extremely unique and brilliant, and has no age limit. it is made for everyone in the family to watch and enjoy.
You would make a treatment by-

  • Find A Title. Whether the screenwriter is creating a new story or writing a treatment based on an existing script, the first step is to make sure that the screenplay has a good title. ...
  • Write a logline. The second step is to write a logline. ...
  • Write a synopsis. The third step is to a synopsis.

I predict this is just a sample of what Nick Park and Peter Lord completed with a treatment for Aardman.

    Her Moring Elegance- Pixilation
Her Morning Elegance is pixilation music video, by Oren Lavie.
Pixilation animation is 'Pixilation is a style of animation that is very similar to stop motion. While it's not incredibly important to declare pixilation in a general public sense, it has developed as a different style and medium than other stop motion work. Pixilation is stop motion animation using people instead of puppets.'- https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-pixilation-140460
The producer of the music video was Michal Dayan and Oren was also the director. The music video is simple but extremely effective. The scene is shot of one mattress in the middle of a room, and with one girl actress. the angle which the whole video is shot from is from above looking straight down. The still photographer who is behind all the camera is Eyal Landesman.
The 3 minute 37 second music video was a long process to create, as the scripting took 6 weeks and the animatic storyboarding took 3 weeks. Although there was only 48 hours worth of shooting involved in the video, which I don't think its a drastically vast amount of time. in the whole video there are 2094 shots altogether, which roughly amounts to 10 shots per second. Once the shots were taken they were lined u to create motion.
Once the video was created and pitched to Lavie's record label which was Tuition, they gave it the green light. Ever since the video was realised it has 32,450,000+ views, and has received a number of awards. each of the 2094 shots were available
to buy for huge amounts of money, and are now homed  and all over the world.

All 3 of the animations are very different, although some have some similarities. Such as both Chicken run and Nightmare before Christmas are both long films and use physical objects for their characters such as puppets and clay figures. Unlike in Her morning Elegance where the characters were actors. Chicken run and nightmare before Christmas being films, took a lot longer to develop compared to her morning elegance and also had a lot bigger teams working on the films, such as sets designers and character designers. One thing all three animation have in common, that they were all stop motion videos, and have all been a huge success.
